Texas Crime Victims' Compensation Fund

You may apply for reimbursement from the Victims' of Crime Compensation Fund, administered by the Office of the Attorney General in Texas, if you have out-of-pocket expenses as a result of a criminal act such as murder, homicide, rape or assault.

Texas Crime Victims' Compensation Fund

VICTIMS OF CRIME, ASSAULT, MURDER, HOMICIDE, RAPE AND OTHER CRIMES ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR REIMBURSEMENT FROM TEXAS CRIME VICTIMS' COMPENSATIN FUND FOR QUALIFIED OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES.

CRIME SCENE CLEANUP, DEATH, AND TRAUMA SCENE CLEAN-UP, PERFORMED BY CRIME CLEAN OF TEXAS CRIME SCENE CLEANING, IS AN APPROVED, REIMBURSEABLE EXPENSE UNDER THE TEXAS VICTIMS' OF CRIME COMPENSATION FUND.

The Texas Crime Victims' Compensation Fund, administered by the Office of the Attorney General, is a financial assistance program that helps eligible victims with certain expenses related to a crime.  The program is funded by court costs paid by criminals in Texas and deposited into the Texas Crime Victims' Compensation Fund.

Crimes covered by the Texas Crime Victims' Compensation Program may include sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery, assault, homicide and other violent crimes.  Vehicular crimes that are covered include failure to stop and render aid, DWI, manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, aggravated assault, intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. 

Claims under the Texas Crime Victims' Compensation Fund may be approved for benefits up to a total of $50,000.  In the case of catastrophic injuries resulting in a total and permanent disability, victims may be eligible for an additional '$75,000 in benefits.

Applications for Texas Crime Victims' Compensation Fund

Application forms should be completed and submitted in a timely manner by individuals that may be eligible for financial assistance. 

Crime Scene Cleanup Expenses

Crime Scene Cleanup is a covered expense under the Texas Crime Victims' Compensation Fund. 

Crime Clean of Texas Crime Scene Clean-up is a qualified crime and death scene cleaning service provider.  For services in Texas call (512)669-2999 or (210) 723-4892. In surrounding Central Texas counties and Texas hill country call (830) 317-3333.

If you have crime scene clean-up expenses, you are eligible to apply for financial assistance through the Texas Crime Victims' Compensation Fund.  Qualifying individuals may be reimbursed up to $750 for crime scene cleanup expenses not reimbursed by insurance or other sources.  In some cases, the reimbursement amount covers the total charges for crime scene cleanup by Crime Clean of Texas Crime Scene Cleanup.

Who may qualify for Crime Victims Compensation?

  • An innocent victim of crime who suffers substantial threat of physical and/or emotional harm or death;

  • A dependent of a victim;

  • An authorized individual acting on behalf of a victim;

  • An intervener who goes to the aid of a victim or peace officer;

  • A person who legally assumes the obligations or voluntarily pays certain expenses related to the crime on behalf of the victim;

  • Immediate family or household members related by blood or marriage who require counseling as a result of the crime;

  • A peace officer, fire fighter or individual who has a duty to protect the public and who is injured in a crime.

Type of Financial Assistance Available

Upon approval, Texas Crime Victims' Compensation benefits may be awarded for the following:

  • Crime Scene Cleanup

  • medical, hospital, physical therapy or nursing care

  • psychiatric care or counseling

  • one-time relocation assistance for victims of family violence or a victim of sexual assault who is assaulted in the victims' place of residence

  • loss of earnings of support

  • loss of wages and travel reimbursement due to participation in, or attendance at, the investigation, prosecutorial and judicial processes

  • care of a child or dependent

  • funeral and burial expenses

  • replacement costs for clothing, bedding or other property seized as evidence or rendered unusable as the result of the investigation

  • attorney fees for assistance in filing the Crime Victims' Compensation application and in obtaining benefits, if the claim is approved

  • loss of wages and travel to seek medical treatment or counseling

Additional Benefits for Catastrophic Injury

In cases where catastrophic in injury has occurred, additional benefits for victims are available from the Texas Crime Victims' Compensation Fund.
